The Little Snow Of The 24 Solar Terms

Xiaoxue is a solar term that reflects precipitation and temperature. It is a solar term with a high frequency of cold waves and strong cold air activity. The Xiaoxue solar term indicates that a relatively stable meridional circulation has been established in East Asia. When the Siberian low pressure or trough moves eastward, large-scale cold air will move southward, leading to widespread strong winds and cooling weather. The light snow in solar terms is not necessarily related to the light snow in weather. The meaning of "light snow" in solar terms is different from that in daily weather forecasts. The light snow solar term is a climate concept that reflects temperature and precipitation. The term 'light snow' in weather forecasts refers to snow with relatively low snowfall intensity. In meteorology, snowfall with a horizontal visible distance equal to or greater than 1000 meters, a snow depth of less than 3 centimeters on the ground, and a 24-hour snowfall of 0.1-2.4 millimeters is called "light snow". The Xiaoxue solar term does not necessarily mean snowfall. In fact, the solar term with the highest amount of snowfall throughout the year is not the Xiaoxue or Daxue solar term. For example, in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River and its surrounding areas, the solar term with the highest amount of snowfall throughout the year is neither "Xiaoxue, Daxue" nor "Xiaohan, Dahan", but the "Rainwater" solar term in spring.
