Post-Extrusion Processing:
Drying: Immediately dry the hot, moist pellets using a suitable dryer to reduce moisture content to a safe level-typically below 10–12%-for storage. This prevents mold growth and spoilage.
Cooling: Cool the dried pellets to ambient temperature using a cooler. This prevents condensation and helps maintain product quality.
Coating (Optional): If desired, coat the cooled pellets with fats, palatants, or other additives using a coating drum. This step enhances palatability and nutritional value, especially for dog food.
Final products
Typical raw materials used in pet food processing include cereal flour, animal bones/offal, fresh or frozen meat or fish, vegetable proteins, minerals, and fish meal, bone meal.
